County Commission Gives Pay Raise To Employees

For the fourth time in the past eight years Riley County has evaluated
and reclassified their full-time employees.
Yes, it will cost the County more money.
The study was completed by The Austin Peters Group of Overland Park,
Kansas. The study took four months
and cost the County $20,635.
The County Commission passed a Resolution last week which approves the
Classification and Salary Study, but
not without controversy. The vote was 2-1. The controversy was over
paying employees going from non-exempt
to exempt more money than what the Austin Peters Group had recommended.
Starting in 2000 seven employees will not be paid overtime, but the
Commissioners agreed to pay 50% of their
average overtime for the past three years. That is added on to what
the Austin Peters Group thought the position
should be paid. Commissioner Bob Newsome voted against adding the overtime
pay, Jim Williams and Russ
Rrey voted for the extra pay.
The seven and the extra pay: Pat Collins $4,659.20; Rod Meredith $4,472.00;
Dennis Peterson $728.00; Eric
(George) Shoults $977.60; Bill Lansdowne $4,105.00; Kevin Murray $1,747.20
and Pam Woods $1,081.60.
The Resolution also pays two employees extra for Adjustments per Market.
The are: Stan Morgan $5,000; and
Monty Wedel $4,138.00.
The Commissioners also agreed to pay Elected Office Holder and Department Heads more for the year 2000.
Elected Officers are: William Kennedy III, County Attorney, from $65,772.00
to $68,090.46; Richard Vargo
County Clerk from $52,617.00 to $54,471.75; Reva King County Treasurer
from $52,617.00 to $54,471.75; M
Charlotte Shawver County Register of Deeds, from $46,040.00 to $47,662.91.
