Jim Williams To Run As Write-In Candidate
By Jon A. Brake
Two term Riley County Commissioner Jim Williams will run for Commissioner
of the 2nd District as a write-in
candidate. Williams lost the August 2 Republican Primary Election to
long time Riley County Police Director
Alvan Johnson.
Williams told the Manhattan Free Press Wednesday that only fifteen percent
of registered Republicans went to
the polls in August. "One hundred percent of the registered Democrats
and Independents and eighty-three
percent of the registered Republicans had no say in who will serve
as their commissioner," William said.
Williams said, "Since the primary election, I have talked to a large
number of constituents, Republicans,
Democrats and Independents alike, who were disappointed at having only
one candidate for 2nd District
Commissioner in the general election on November 7th."
Williams said the decision to enter the race was not an easy one, but
this will give the voters a choice in
November.
