Ending Domestic Violence Workshop October 24

"Ending Domestic Violence" will be the topic of a workshop on Wednesday, October 24, sponsored by Pawnee Mental Health Services. John Fajen, a licensed psychologist, and Gina Cooper, coordinator of the Riley County Domestic Violence Task Force, will lead this workshop for health and helping professionals and others. It will be held at Houston Street Center, 5th and Houston, at 12:45 to 3:45 p.m. The cost is $24 if payment is received by noon on Friday, October 19, and $30 for later registration.

Nurses may receive three continuing nursing education hours through Mercy Health Center, an approved provider. Social workers and others may receive three continuing education units. Registration is open. To register visit www.pawnee.org or call 785-587-4326.

"Domestic violence is abuse one person uses on another to maintain control in a relationship. It’s repetitive and rarely isolated incidents," said Fajen. "Helping professionals have ‘windows of opportunity’ to aid the victims of domestic violence. We’ll look at how to implement interventions that can make a difference," he said.
