Contest Starts

Hoop Holler ‘n’ Shoot, an annual free throw contest for fifth and sixth-grade boys and girls, will be held in upcoming weeks at elementary schools in the Manhattan area.

Boys and girls division champions will be crowned at each school with winners shooting in semifinals competition to be held in Bramlage Coliseum. The boys semifinals will be held at halftime of the men’s K-State vs. Iowa State game on January 19th. The girls semifinals will be held during halftime of the women’s K-State vs KU game on January 23rd.

The top six shooters for the semifinals in each division will shoot in the finals to be held at the KSU vs. Texas game on January 30th for the boys and during the KSU women vs. Iowa State game on February 2nd for the girls.

Preliminary rounds at the elementary schools will be held as follows: Flint Hills Christian School, January 8th, 1:00 to 1:40 p.m.; Amanda Arnold, January 8th, 3:45 p.m.; Bluemont, January 9th 9:30 - 10:20 a.m., Bergman, January 9th, 11:30-12:15 p.m., Theodore Roosevelt, January 9th 3:30 p.m.; Woodrow Wilson, January 10th, 8:10 a.m.; Seven Dolors, January 10th 3:00 p.m.; Lee Elementary, January 10th 3:45 p.m.; Northview, January 14th, 3:15 p.m.; Eugene Field, January 15th 8:50 a.m.; Ogden, January 15th 2:15 p.m.; Marlatt/Ogden 6th Grade, January 17th 3:35 p.m.

Last year’s champions were Kaitlin Knapp representing Woodrow Wilson and Preston Braun from Marlatt.

Elementary School shoot-offs will be conducted by USD 383 officials. Times and gyms will be posted at each school.

Sponsoring organizations include Little Apple Optimist Club, Kansas State Bank, McDonalds, Manhattan / Ogden Public Schools USD 383, Manhattan Parks & Recreation, and KMAN, KROCK and B-104.7 radio stations.
