Kimball Avenue Closed Starting Monday

Kimball Avenue from Denison Avenue to Ivy Drive will be completely closed beginning Monday, May 20, 2002 through October 11, 2002. This will facilitate roadway, storm sewer, pavement marking adjustments, lighting and safety improvements along Kimball Avenue.

Also closed will be a short section of Manhattan Avenue from and including its intersection with Kimball Avenue to and including the intersection of Manhattan Avenue and Blue Hills Road. Access will be restricted construction traffic and emergency vehicles to/from Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community from Denison Avenue.

Access to the Blue Hills shopping center and adjacent commercial area at the east end of Kimball Avenue will be maintained at all times from the intersection of Kimball Avenue and Tuttle Creek Boulevard.

Construction will be phased to allow uninterrupted access to the merchants in the area.

Residents of the Blue Hills Neighborhood will have continuous access via Keen Road and Ivy Drive.

City Administration, the Riley County Police Department and Kansas State University (KSU) police are in the process of coordinating vehicular access to the KSU football games. As with any project, drivers will need to allow for a little extra travel time to and from the games.

The Kimball Avenue project has been designed by HWS Consulting Group, Inc. of Manhattan, Kansas. The general contractor is Pavers, Inc. of Salina, Kansas and KDOT will administer the project.
