With this issue the Manhattan Free Press starts its tenth year of publication. The First issue was printed the third week of January 1991. A year and a half was lost during 1997 and 1998 when Jon Brake, Publisher became Managing Editor of the Derby Daily Reporter.

At Derby, the newspaper won the Kansas Newspaper Contest for News and Writing Excellence. This year the Free Press won the Kansas Gas Service Excellence in Editorial Writing Award.
