Manhattan's annual 4th of July Celebration "Thunder Over Manhattan" will be held Wednesday, July 4th. Last Year close to 10,000 people attended the events and it is anticipated a record crowd will see this years events.
Thunder Over Manhattan is sponsored and coordinated by the Westside Business Association in cooperation with numerous business sponsors.
2001 Thunder Over Manhattan Activities:
7:30 a.m. - 5K Foot Race and Walk
July 4th between 6:15 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. near Pottorf Hall in Cico Park. Each participant will receive a free t-shirt along with their packet.
Age Divisions:
12 and under; 13-19 years; 20-29 years; 30-39 years; 40-49 years; 50-59 years and 60 and over.
Awards will be given to the top 3 male and female finishers in each group of the 5K race.
7:30 a.m. - 11:30 p.m Solar Kiwanis Pancake Feed at Pottrof Hall
1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. - Free Swim at Cico Park City Pool.
6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. - General Activities: Kids Patriot Parade; Trike Race for Kids; tractor Pull for Kids; Miniature Carrousel Ride; Bounce Rides; 4H Watermelon Stand; face Painting; Sunset Zoo Display; Puppet Show; farm Bureau Financial Services Prize Give Away; Manhattan Arts Council Crafts for Kids; fire Engine Rides; Food Vendors; Fort Riley Military Equipment Display;
6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. City Band Performance
8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Arts in the Park - Trinidad Tripoli Steel Drum Band
9:45 p.m. - Thunder Over Manhattan Fireworks
The Little Apple Optimist Club will hold the Little Apple Tricycle Race for Kids ages 6 and under. It will start at 6:00 p.m. and run to 8:30 p.m. at Pottorf Hall.
Prizes for all riders are donated by the Wilson Company, First National Bank of Wamego, the Pathfinder and McDonald's of Manhattan.
Ribbons will be given to all participants. A Training Bicycle will be
given away to one participant.
