Governor Honors Steel And Pipe

The winner of the 2002 Kansas Governor’s Award of Excellence is Steel & Pipe Supply Co. of Manhattan. Governor Graves Tuesday night presented the company with the top business award in the state. The presentation was made at the Kansas Cosmosphere & Space Center in Hutchinson during the Kansas Cavalry

Encampment. The Encampment kicks off Kansas Business Appreciation Month, an annual tribute to Kansas businesses sponsored by the Kansas Department of Commerce & Housing (KDOC&H).

"We are very honored to receive this distinguished award," said Dennis Mullin, president of Steel & Pipe Supply. "We believe that a great deal of our success is derived from the fundamental philosophies established from our Kansas roots. To be selected for the Governor’s Award of Excellence is an honor, which recognizes the hard work of all our employees."

Steel Pipe & Supply manufactures and distributes carbon steel products throughout the Midwest. The company started in 1933 in Manhattan, and has grown into one of the largest independently owned steel service centers in the Midwest.

The company manages a fleet of more than 70 trucks throughout the region. It has about 875,000 square feet of warehouse operations located in Manhattan, Kansas; New Century, Kansas; Jonesburg, Missouri; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Longview, Texas. "Steel Pipe & Supply is an excellent example of a Kansas company that has survived, and flourished, during times of change. It has found tremendous success through its ability to adapt," said Governor Graves. "We are proud to recognize this company, with its great Kansas history, for its significant contributions to our state."
