County Need New Economic Plan By 2002

The Riley County Commission discussed a new County Economic Development Strategic Plan at Monday's meeting. The Commissioners were told by Monty Wedel that the last Plan was developed in 1992. "This Plan, commonly referred to as a strategic plan, must be updated by April 2002 in order to maintain Riley County's non-metropolitan enterprise zone designation through the Kansas Department of Commerce and Housing."

The County staff recommend that the Commissioners retain the services of David Darling, a Community Economic Development Specialist through KSU Extension to produce a new plan for about $10,000.

The other two options are No. 1 Do nothing. No. 2..is to prepare the Plan using existing staff.

The Commissioners did not make a decision but will bring the subject up at another meeting.
