Why Would Roy Leave KU?

A lot of people are speculating that Roy Williams would want to leave the University of Kansas to be back in his hometown
in North Carolina. Some are saying he would leave to be at a school that he could actually win in the NCAA Final Four.
Also, some people are saying he would just like a change and go to a different school.

All of those are incorrect, they are just rumors that the major sports networks are wanting you to believe that. Don’t you
believe it!

That’s right, I have the real reason and it is none of those that the major networks are putting out. I have a very unreliable
source and I am going to run with it.

Here it is, The real reason is...... Jim Wooldridge.

Coach Wooldridge is known to be a turnaround artist. He has an over all record of 229- 147. He will put in a very fast and
aggressive attack team that will tear down opponents. He will use the "Triangle Offense" that Tex Winter perfected and is
tough to defend. The triangle offense is a very fast paced offense that requires the players to be in optimum shape. They will
be running from when the time tip off begins until the end of the game.

Jim Wooldridge has recruited several smaller, faster, and quicker players since he has been here, most from the junior college
rank so they can make an immediate impact. He has a game plan and Roy doesn’t like it. Williams doesn’t want to face
Wooldridge or the triangle offense.

Roy Williams has dominated the Wildcats for the entire 90’s. He doesn’t want to see the first decade of a new century to go
the other way with him at the helm. He knows that the fast paced offense will send his team to the oxygen tanks.

The Winter Factor.

I have heard Tex Winter mentioned more in the last few months than ever before. He is the one that perfected the triangle
offense and Jim Wooldridge knows how to use it. Tex also was one of the key reasons Wooldridge was hired by K-State.
Tex Winter even visited Manhattan to promote his new book this week or was there a different reason? Is it a coincidence?
Ask Roy Williams. It just might be a conspiracy to pluck a few Jayhawks. I like mine medium-rare, they taste just like
chicken.

OK, This may not be the actual reason why Roy Williams would leave Kansas to go to North Carolina, but it sure sounds a
lot better to me. Don’t let ESPN or CNN hear about this, because they will want to take credit for knowing the real reason.

Did You Know?

The Color Barrier

In 1948, Harold Robinson graduated from Manhattan High School and prepared to become Kansas State’s first black
student-athlete. After sitting out the 1948 season as all freshmen were required, K-State head coach Ralph Graham in 1949
made Robinson the first African-American to receive an athletic scholarship in the Big Seven Conference.

Robinson was named an All-Conference center in 1950, his junior season, despite playing for a 1-9-1 K-State team.
Robinson gained the considerable respect of opponents and fans despite the smoldering racism that was so pervasive during
his playing days. He wasn’t allowed to stay at the same hotel as his teammates on many road trips, instead staying in private
residences. Hoyt Givens did not play in 1949, but joined Robinson on the varsity in 1950 as a non-scholarship player.

Following Robinson as a barrier breaker in Big Seven baseball in 1952 was Earl Woods, the father of golf superstar Tiger
Woods. Other K-Staters instrumental in breaking down the color barrier were Gene Wilson in basketball in 1952, Veryl
Switzer, Wilson, Norman Mills, Clifford Bizek and Herman Wilson in track in 1953 and Don Harris in tennis in 1952.
Switzer earned All-America honors in football for the Wildcats and went on to be the fourth player selected in the NFL draft
by the Green Bay Packers in 1954. Provided by Kansas State University

Rivalry Humor :)

A K-State Grad and a KU grad are flying behind enemy lines when their plane gets shot down. They are captured by the
enemy and are granted one last wish before their execution. The KU grad says, "I would like to hear Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk,
one last time." The K-State grad says "Shoot me first!!!"

Track

DENTON, TEXAS - Kansas State freshman Amy Mortimer (Riley, Kan.) grabbed a pair of medals, winning gold in the
3000m, while placing second in the 1500m during the final day of competition at the United States Junior National Meet
Saturday, in Denton, Texas.

Despite a disappointing second-place finish in the 1500m, Mortimer rebounded to run away with the 3000m title. The former
Riley County High School standout ran a 3000m time of 9:36.53 and would not be denied.

In her first race of the evening, Mortimer just missed out on another gold, running the 1500m in a time of 4:32.10, just 0.6
seconds behind Lauren Fleshman of Stanford.

"She and Coach (Randy) Cole were really disappointed after the race," said Kansas State Head Coach Cliff Rovelto. "She
ran too conservative and left the girl in the race who shouldn’t have been there and was just outkicked. She was really hot. In
3000m she came back and ran the race she should of run to win the 1500m. The girl who beat Amy had to use all she had to
win the race before, but it’s a valuable lesson."

Mortimer was one of two Wildcats in action on Saturday as freshman Chika Onyebuchi (Arlington, Texas) ran a 200m time
of 24.67 to finish third in her heat, but failed to qualify for Saturday night’s finals.
