James Woydziak Nambed Director Of Fire Services

James Woydziak (Way-jack) has been named Director of Fire Services for the City of Manhattan effective October 15,
2000. The appointment was announced today by Ron R. Fehr, City Manager, for the City of Manhattan.

Woydziak will assume a key position with the City’s management team. In his position, he will be responsible for planning,
directing, and organizing the activities of fire suppression, prevention, emergency management programs, code services, and
supportive services. His administrative duties will include: recruitment of personnel, purchase of equipment, control of
expenditures, preparation of budgets, and the assignment of personnel and equipment. In addition, Woydziak will provide
highly technical staff assistance to the City Manager and to the City Commission.

Fehr said, "I am extremely pleased to bring someone with the breadth of experience and proven integrity that Jim will bring to
the position of Director of Fire Services. Jim will be an asset to the City’s management team and brings with him substantial
leadership experience."

Woydziak currently serves as Fire Chief for the City of Emporia, Kansas. He has held that position since February 1990. He
is responsible for fire protection for a city of 25,000, Emporia State University, and a rural area of 209 square miles. In
addition to fire protection, the fire department provides Emergency Medical Services to Lyon County and Code Services for
the City. Prior to serving with the City of Emporia, Woydziak served as Fire Chief of Moline, Illinois from 1984 to 1990. He
also held the position of Training Officer for the Lawrence, Kansas Fire Department from 1979 to 1984.

Woydziak graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Safety from Washburn University, Topeka, Kansas in 1984.
He received an Associate in Applied Science Degree from Cowley County Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas in
1976. Woydziak currently serves as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Kansas Professional Fire Chiefs Association, and is a
member of the National Fire Protection Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, and the Kansas Fire Chiefs
Association.

Woydziak replaces the vacancy left by Fire Chief Larry Reese, who retired June 23, 2000. Chuck Tannehill, Assistant
Director/Emergency Services has been Acting Director of Fire Services and will continue to do so until Woydziak assumes
the position as Director on October 15.
