(This page has several pictures - we are
sorry if it takes
too long to download for some of you.)
At Q & S Windrose Llama Ranch,
summer temperatures often climb above 100 degrees. Our main barn
was designed to protect llamas from the heat. It is fully insulated and designed
with ample cross ventilation. Huge sliding doors on either side of the building,
when opened, let the Kansas winds move through the shady interior, giving
the animals relief.
When the summer winds are still (which is almost never)
the ventilation is aided by large heavy-duty fans. The concrete floors provide
a cool place to recline and the Windrose llamas enjoy lounging on their very
own rubber mats. Without this barn our llamas would not fare well during
the intensely hot "dog days" of a Kansas August.
Also located in the barn is a washroom, treatment
room, recovery room, and nursery room with adjoining stalls with runs.
We have our own feed formula custom mixed at the local Co-Op;
our minerals are prepared here at the ranch; and along with the pasture
grass, hay is available 24 hours a day.
